Easter Tea in the Garden

Join me in the garden for an Easter tea. There is birdsong, a slight breeze, and beautiful sunshine. I just received a surprise gift of the beautiful flowers you see. They were perfect for the Easter Tablescape Blog Hop today sponsored by Chloe @Celebrate and Decorate.

I had planned all along to use this tea set for my Easter tablescape. My husband's aunt passed this tea set down to me several years ago.(See former post with this tea set here) I dearly love to use it. However, I had no idea what flowers I could use.

Then voila! A friend offered me a bucket of flowers she rescued from being thrown away from an antique show. Check out my friend Sarah, on Instagram@ Spencecollection and show her some love there. She sells lovely antiques.

There were two shades of long stem roses and white hydrangeas. The bridal wreath is from my garden. I had a great time deciding on a container and setting the table. I've never had the luxury of arranging that many flowers!

"But indeed I would rather have nothing but tea." Jane Austin

The little white basket is my childhood Easter basket. My sister and I had matching baskets. I wouldn't take anything for this little basket. So many precious memories.

Please serve yourself a meringue. I'll pour you a cup of tea and we can have a nice chat!

The weather is so pleasant!
Imagine the lovely fragrance of these flowers. Pretty fragrances feed my soul!

But wait, there is more. Remember me telling you I'd never had the luxury of arranging so many roses. I was able to fill another watering can full of those gorgeous roses.

I've had a delightful morning in the garden.

The birds were delightfully singing and I saw a couple of early butterflies gliding by. So, I decided to capture the scene on video. For me, it is always intimidating to talk on a video. It will be on my Instagram story if it doesn't load here properly.

Amid the turmoil and fear with the effects of the Corona Virus, we all need assurance and trust. As I spent a pleasant morning in my garden styling this table I was not alone. This table was done weeks ago just as news of the virus spreading to New York was released. The words to this dear old hymn comforted me.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Stay safe and healthy. Prayers for those affected by the virus, our government leaders and first responders. May God heal, protect, comfort us and give us great wisdom.

  1. Bonnie, What a treat to join you in the garden this morning! There is nothing better than to spend some time in the garden enjoying some sunshine, bird song and fresh air during these uncertain times. Your surprise gift of the rescued flowers are so gorgeous and perfect for tea in the garden and in your watering can. I love your sweet heirloom tea set with the violets too. Thank you for sharing the hymn. It took me back to my childhood and I could hear my grandmother singing along as I reread the words. As always it’s a pleasure to hop with you and join you at the table. Happy Tuesday ♥

  2. Bonnie, I have enjoyed my lovely visit with you in your garden. The tea set is beautiful and delicate, love the violet pattern! What a lovely gift of flowers especially during these times. The roses and hydrangeas are exquisite and I love presenting them in the watering cans. Many years ago, Butch was often asked to sing “In The Garden”. It is a beautiful old hymn not often heard anymore. Sitting in the garden with a breeze, birdsong, and a cup of tea is just about perfect my friend!

  3. Bonnie, how lucky you were to be the recipient of those flowers from your friend to top off this gorgeous china! I love those tiny violets. I feel like Fenton tried to capture the beauty of such when they started producing "Violets in the Snow" in the late 60s. So, so delicately pretty your china is. And you have still have your Easter basket! Oh my goodness, how sentimental, all of this! Beautiful hymn. You calm my spirit with your presentation today. What a great way to start my day, thank you!

  12. This is so pretty, Bonnie! And oh, how fragrant it must be. I can hardly imagine. Indeed, you have a dear friend there. One of my regrets is that before lockdown I didn't buy fresh flowers -- not that they'd be alive now but oh, we need something so beautiful, every single one of you. The basket is such a treasure and I love your sweet violets. Stay well, my friend.

    1. Thank you, Jeanie. Wish we could order curb side pick up at Lowes or Home Delivery flowers. My grocery store is delivering groceries. Wonder if they would bring flowers.
Right now I have amaryllis blooming in my yard and a few camellias left so that I need to be satisfied with those. My hydrangeas are leafing out but it is usually May before we see blooms.

  14. Oh Bonnie,
I was hoping that one of you Southern Lady's would host an outdoor tablescape! This is stunning and soothing.
This was my Mom's favorite song and now it's mine. She sang it throughout the house when I was just a girl, and we had one of her nephews sing it at her funeral. I love it so much, it is so comforting.
You certainly were treated to some gorgeous flowers and you have styled them so lovely.
So lovely, gracious and definitely Southern classic style.

  30. Maintaining and caring for a garden and lawn is not as simple as picking dandelions. Hours of work are put in weekly by many green-thumbs that want lush and thriving landscapes. sprinkler
