                      The Violet

 Down in a green and shady bed
A modest violet grew;
Its stalk was bent, it hung its head,
As if to hide from view.

And yet it was a lovely flower,
No colours bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
Instead of hiding there.

Yet there it was content to bloom;
In modest tints arrayed;
And there diffused its sweet perfume,
Within the silent shade.

Then let me to the valley go,
This pretty flower to see;
That I may also learn to grow
In sweet humility.

Jane Taylor (1783-1824)

Jane Taylor also wrote the childhood poem," Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

This lovely china was given to me by my husband's aunt. It had been passed down to her from her aunt and she has used it for years. Now, I am honored to use it, as well as her tablecloth and the thumbprint glasses.

Spring is a happy time of new beginnings and refreshes our spirits.

It was a beautiful spring day warm enough for an Alfresco outing in my garden. The grass has greened up, the azaleas are especially pretty this year and the bridal wreath, and dogwoods are blooming here in south Alabama. Easter is just around the corner and egg hunts are planned around our community. Seeing the children scamper hunting eggs is a delight. Spring brings new life and beautiful blossoms and is such a time of renewal. Spring brings us Easter for a time of renewal and appreciation for the Savior of the world that gave himself for our sins.

It's No Secret That I Love Flowers!

It is fun to create quick vignettes for Instagram and Facebook.Most all of the pictures I'm sharing today have been posted on Instagram recently. Would you consider following me on Instagram if you don't already?

Wild Azalea growing in the woods near my house. I fondly remember, talking walks in the woods near my grandparents home as a child, cutting branches from this most fragrant tree. My kitchen smells wonderful and this fragrance is so nostalgic for me.

Wisteria growing wild near my home has a etherial fragrance. I have enjoyed arranging it in several different vases and vignettes recently.

I brought these tulips all the way back home from Texas.
Purple has been speaking to me lately.

This is my DIL's gorgeous china!
This is her beautiful orchid. She has the perfect light for orchids and they do well for her.

Dallas Arboretum and grandchildren activities

16 comments
My husband and I spent ten days recently visiting our son in Dallas. My previous post shows a picture of some area bloggers that I enjoyed meeting while I was there. While we were in Dallas it basically rained every day we were there. But the rain stopped one afternoon long enough for a short visit to the Arboretum to see the daffodils and tulips.

 Rain for days had affected all the flowers but they were still very pretty.
 The color combinations of purple hyacinths and daffodils were striking.

A new area with potagers had been built since I was there in June. Beautiful varieties of lettuces and vegetables were thriving. This area has a stunning view of the river.

Even though most of the tulips had not opened you could tell how beautiful it was going to be.
The sun did not come out for a week while we were there. If it wasn't raining it was cloudy and very overcast skies so the tulips had not matured and few were open.

My little granddaughter likes to make pictures like her grandmother!

My grandson is a cub scout and the Pine Wood Derby was held while we were there. It was a special time for three generations to work on a Derby car together during the week that lead up to the race.
Our grandsons car. Would you believe there are videos  available about how to build a derby car now? The tracks are even computerized these days. My husband was amazed how things had changed since he was a cub scout and raced a car in a derby.
Our son took our granddaughter to a father/ daughter dance while we were there.  I was disappointed my pictures did not turn out because they were snapped in such a hurry.

The sun came out on the last day we were there so we were able to go to the lake and sail the kids boats their Granddaddy had made for them. Everything was wet and they had a great time playing outside as evidenced by their appearance.
Wish we lived closer and could see our kids more often. Our next trip out of town will be seeing our other set of grandchildren. Have a good week.
