Ikat is everywhere! How do you pronounce it?

I finally found some ikat pillows in the right colors I could afford at Home Goods. Now a question: Do you know how to pronounce ikat?

The weaving of ikat originated in Indonesia. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, the threads are dyed selectively before weaving by binding fibres around groups of threads so that they will not take up colour when the thread is dipped in the dyebath.
Ikat is pronounced ekat. This link, explains
the origin of ikat and how to pronounce it. You can also google and hear the audio pronunciation. Needless to say, I made these pics in October. LOL! Excuse the fall decor. I never got around to posting about the new pillows.

These were the pillows I have had for a while.
I moved them into the living room. Yes, I know the floral fabric on the chairs are dated. I have a long list of things I would like to do. Wish money grew on trees.

Do you like them with or without the larger needlepoint pillow? It seems so naked because I am used to larger pillows. If I could find two more solid pillows that coordinated I think I would like it better.

Do you have any ikat fabrics?

  5. Bonnie,
I love the first picture of the sofa with all 3 pillows. did you do the needlepoint pillow? This looks really good on your white sofa. We have that same sofa so this really inspires me...Time for a change around here and some new pillows...and no, I don't have any ikat.. I must be behind...

  6. Thye are gorgeous pillows, Bonnie! I love Home Goods!

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question about the snow effect on my photo. When I upload, or "sync" my photos to the Picasa web site, they randomly added the special effects such as twinkling lights or snow to a copy of the photo. . I did not do anything and I don't know how they did it.--they chose which photos to enhance. I don't know if eventually they will offer this enhancement as a bonus in their edit, but I love it, and hope they do!

  7. I love the blue! I have an ikat dress but haven't found anything else that pulled at my heart.

Also, I so appreciated your fashion related comment. I too struggle with dressing appropriately but not looking dated or heaven forbid OLD! :)

  9. Your house looks so beautiful! I had Ikat in three chairs in the den, now I just kept one. They make Ikat here a lot, it's hand made and ours is even hand died with natural dies from plants. I love your Ikat pillows in the first pic...gorgeous! You pronounce it Ikat (ekut). Have a nice week. Bonnie.
