Last week I went shopping out of town to a larger town and enjoyed lunch at Panera Bread Company. As I was leaving the restaurant I decided to buy chocolate croissants as a surprise for my husband. They were such a treat for us on our trip to France.
The next morning I got up before him walked outside and realized the weather was very pleasant and it would be nice to have breakfast on the patio. I also got the idea to try my hand again making French Press coffee to enjoy with the croissants.
We don't have a grinder that has a course grind setting so you must do it manually. I was pretty pleased with getting the grounds course but then came the challenge of how much coffee to use.
This time it looked good and tasted so smooth but....it was more like espresso than french press coffee. It wasn't bitter and I drink it black but it was way too strong!
Anyway, we enjoyed our breakfast.
Glad you can't see how badly the grass needed mowing.
Yes, we ate the whole thing but that is not the end of the story. Around noon my husband said he didn't feel very well. Found out he drank two large cups of coffee. There is a reason they serve espresso in tiny cups! We both felt very jittery the rest of the day. I would tell you the amount of coffee I used but you would die laughing.

ReplyDeleteSo pretty -- Looks like a delightful breakfast -- sorry about the coffee jitters -- my brother once said after a trip to the middle-east that there would probably be a peace treaty signed if everyone over there stopped drinking Turkish coffee!

Oh my, that is a funny, but also sad story. I love your tablesetting and the chocolate croissant looks sooooooooooo good. I remember when I was in Europe, I use to ask for a pot of hot water and I would dilute my coffee. lol I just couldn't get use to how strong it all was. You did a great job creating the atmosphere. ReplyDelete"Breadco" is a favorite of ours. Panera (St Louis Bread Company) is based here in STL. There are a lot of them in our neck of the woods. We love stopping there for breakfast or lunch.

Hi Bonnie, what great looking photos, you might not be 'crafty', but you are certainly creative. I normally put a rounded desert spoon for each cup of coffee, but I do like it quite strong. I also always serve hot milk with it, and then it stays hotter longer, and people who don't like it strong can make it milky without becoming cold. Your French trip is rubbing off on you! It looks like you and your hubby had some good, energizing time enjoying the coffee and remembering France! Sometimes I do the same, every Saturday it's croissant time for my boys... (and no coffee for them)

ReplyDeletetoo funny sweet lady. I have a french press somewhere in AZ. I even think I have a recipe on how much to use in the darn thing. It does make pretty strong coffee tho....if my memory serves me.
